I just can't seem to make it beyond Level 43 in hard mode.  Are there any tricks? I can't build enough air towers, or upgrade them enough. I have two to three power towers upgraded to 3 and 4, four air towers upgraded to 4 and 3 and otherwise mostly normal towers with 6 of them upgraded to level 5 which are where the flying doyus will go. And the big strong doyus will also just walk through, with very little life left... Any ideas how I can improve?

Hi.
There is a way.
You are making a "fixed" path, right?
Imagine you make 2 paths, when Doyus are going to finish the first path you close that path, so they have to return to the other path. And when Doyus arrives to the final of the second path, you open the first path and close the second path.
I don't know if it's clear 
Basically it's making 2 paths 
Tell me if I explained well, please.

By the way, it's possible to defeat even the Ultra Hard Mode

Yes, thank you. By now I have figured that out as well and gotten way higher in the overall ranking. It's difficult to take care of the flying doyus now but it does work.

Yes, to defeat all the Hard Mode, you have to take care about several things

Doyu Defence is by far the best game of all Tower Defenses I have seen. But it can be so difficult after level 43 in hard mode. Is it even possible to pass all levels?

Yes, of course.
Even the 100 levels of the ultra hard mode can be defeated.
